This module is focussed on understanding the interactions between transport, the environment and its relationship with future sustainability concerns. The first part of the module introduces key concepts and ideas related to urban transportation, the development of contemporary cities and key principles associated with sustainable transport systems. The second part of the module introduces the scope of transport-environment relations focussing on the impact of transport on the environment. The final part of the module discusses best practice solutions/case studies for integrating environmental considerations into transport planning policy and decision-making.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Understand key concepts in contemporary urban transportation planning and sustainable transport systems;
2. Understand the nexus between transportation, the environment and its role in sustainable development ;
3. Understand transport-environment interactions;
4. Be familiar with best practice solutions for integrating the environment and sustainability issues into transport planning and policy.
