The module introduces students to the principles of research design, undertaking effective literature reviews and applied quantitative and qualitative research methods. Students are provided with relevant lectures slides, class notes, practical exercises and key readings that will show how that method has been used in planning research. Students are expected to familiarise themselves with these key texts before lectures. The module utilises a series of practical, lab-based workshops to introduce students to data analytics, and students must attend these practical sessions in order to complete their individual assessment. The module provides a comprehensive introduction to IBM’s SPSS statistical software package, including data input and management, analytics, data visualization and presentation.
