Curricular information is subject to change.

To enhance understanding of the role of biochemical testing in the clinical context and its practice as relevant to the role of a clinical biochemist. This understanding will be enable by delivery of lectures and interactive case discussion sessions by clinicians across different specialisms and by clinical biochemists.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

(i) To acquire knowledge and understanding of the wide involvement of biochemistry testing across many clinical disciplines
()i) To appreciate how biochemical testing integrates into the overall patient pathway and thereby appraise the value of such testing
(iii) To understand the clinical biochemist’s role in integrating and applying knowledge and judgement to the clinical and scientific interpretation of results.
(iv) To gain insight into the practice of interpreting biochemical and endocrinological test results

Indicative Module Content:

Lectures involving clinicians who use biochemical testing in the diagnosis and management of patients within their specialism e.g. renal, cardiology, hepatology
