PHYS40210 Clin Biochem Disease Pathogens

This module focuses on biochemical and physiological processes involved in diseases of major organs. Introduction to kidney, liver, cardiac, cancer and lipid disorders. The module presents biomarkers associated with the diagnosis, monitoring, prevention and treatment of diseases. Emergencies in clinical biochemistry will be investigated. There will be many cases presentations.

Learning Outcomes:

Develop a knowledge and understanding of the importance of biochemical diagnoses in AKI, liver disease, AMI and dyslipidaemias. Demonstrate a knowledge of sensitivity and specificity of biochemical diagnoses in illnesses. Become proficient in knowledge of patient sample types and biochemical calculations.
