A 3 month internship provides students with experience of a workplace environment. The internship puts the previous 2 trimesters' work into context in a practical way. Students can apply for advertised opportunities and are also supported to find their own internship according to their specific interests and career goals. Placement hosts can be companies who are active in the space sector; research groups who utilise and/or develop space technologies in their projects, or major space agencies such as the European Space Agency or the German Space Agency, DLR.

At the end of the internship, students are well prepared to pursue their career ambitions within the space sector, in research (e.g. by pursuing a PhD), or in the wider technology sector.

Depending on a student's academic performance in Trimester 1 and 2, some opportunities may not be available.

Feedback Strategy/Strategies

• Feedback individually to students, on an activity or draft prior to summative assessment

How will my Feedback be Delivered?

The main feedback mechanism is from the workplace supervisor directly to the student during the placement. This feedback will refer to the technical implementation of the work as well as to workplace-specific matters, for example, regarding punctuality, organisation, efficiency and team-work. The supervisor will read a draft of the thesis before submission for assessment and will provide feedback to the student in advance of submission. An academic mentor will check-in with the student during the internship to ensure they have a good understanding of the requirements for the report and poster preparation.
