Curricular information is subject to change.

This module provides an introduction to modern particle physics:fundamental particles and interactions, experiments at particlecolliders, quantum numbers and conservation laws, the Standard Modelof Particle Physics, quarks and leptons, gauge and Higgs bosons, resonant states and quark model of hadrons, Feynman diagrams, electroweak unification, P and CP violation, physics of charm, beautyand top quarks, mixing and oscillation, strong interaction physics, neutrino physics, physics beyond the Standard Model.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of the module, students should have acquired a clearunderstanding of particle physics and the Standard Model describingnature at the most fundamental level. The student should be able tounderstand and work within this framework and its extensions, be ableto analyse particle properties and scattering reactions, and to deviseexperiments.
