PHTY41220 Advanced Professional Practice

Academic Year 2023/2024

This module continues the professional development of physiotherapists commenced in previous modules core to the curriculum including Professional Practice 1, 2 and 3. This module will progress physiotherapists towards the level of professional competency necessary for contemporary practice. It will explore the physical and psychological manifestations of illness consolidating and enhancing the learning achieved in cores areas. .Professional issues which arise during practice will also be examined.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module the students will be able to: 1.Synthesis assessment findings and critically evaluate interventions for individuals with complex musculoskeletal, cardio-respiratory, and neurological conditions against a background of evidenced based practice. 2.Critically appraise the impact of professional issues which may arise during their career.3 . Prepare a CV and prepare to undertake a competency based interviews.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
The approaches to teaching and learning vary in this module from year to year. This module is very much driven by student identified learning needs which commonly reflect the health, economic and political climate.
Currently the module is composed of some lectures, practical hands on skills sessions in preparation for completion of the physiotherapy programme and group based work where students develop learning materials for their colleagues.
