This module is designed for students registered to healthcare programmes and it is core to the BSc Physiotherapy degree.
The curriculum explores concepts of health and health care in the world today. Topics include; models of health and disability; social determinants of health; one health, and planetary health; the global burden of disease and sustainable development goals (SDGs); exploration of contrasting health systems, health beliefs and behaviours as well as working as a health professional in complex environments. Consideration will be given to the health needs of diverse and vulnerable populations.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of the module students will

1.Understand historical models of health and disability
2. Have a deeper understanding of sociological, cultural, economic, geographical and political determinants of health and health care.
3. Know key actors in Global Health and how the Sustainable Development Goals shape global health targets
4. Understand the importance of one health and planetary health in a changing climate
5. Appraise global indicators of health and the burden of communicable and non-communicable disease
6. Appraise differences in health systems, including access to rehabilitation for chronic conditions and disability across countries and cultures
7. Understand the challenges of health care provision in LMIC and Refugee Health contexts.
8. Understand Inclusion Health and Gender and Sexual Minority Healthcare needs
9. Be able to develop solutions for health care challenges in different health contexts, cultures and systems
