This module is designed for students registered to healthcare programmes and it is core to the BSc Physiotherapy degree.
The curriculum explores concepts of health and health care in the world today. Topics include models of health, disability and social determinants of health; one health, planetary health, the global burden of disease and sustainable development goals (SDGs); exploration of contrasting health systems and working as a health professional in complex environments and with special populations, health beliefs and behaviours.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of the module students will

1. Have a deeper understanding of sociological, cultural, economic, geographical and political determinants of health and health care as well as the concept of one health
2. Understand historical models of health and disability
3. Know key actors in Global Health and how the Sustainable Development Goals shape global health targets
4. Appraise global indicators of health and the burden of disease
5.Appraise differences in health systems, including access to rehabilitation for chronic conditions and disability across countries and cultures
6. Understand the challenges of health care provision in LMIC, Refugee and Inclusion Health contexts
7. Be able to develop solutions for health care challenges in different health contexts, cultures and systems

Global burden of disease, communicable and non communicable disease
Disability across countries
Causes and control of global epidemics
Socioeconomic and environmental determinants of health
Health systems and key actors in global health
Inequalities in health workforce distribution
Human rights approach to health
Inclusion health, refugee health
Cultural diversity and health
Work effectively with colleagues from different ethnic, religious, and social backgrounds
