PHTY20270 Evidence Based Practice

Academic Year 2023/2024

Evidence Based Practice PHTY20270 teaches healthcare students how to do effective literature searching and critical appraisal.
Teaching is face-to-face but supplemented by videos that go through systematic literature searching step-by-step.

Week 5 assessment requires students to submit a PubMed search strategy based on a focused clinical question of their choice. Weeks 5-12 of term cover critical appraisal of various study designs. Final assessment is at end-of-trimester and is closed-book short-answer-questions, based on previously unseen published papers.

Previous students have reported in online feedback that the module has a positive knock-on effect on other modules, which require them to be adept at literature searching and appraisal.
