PHTY20270 Evidence Based Practice

Academic Year 2021/2022

This module refers to the ‘Best Research Evidence’ of the Evidence Based Practice triad. It is relevant to all healthcare students, including Physiotherapy, Health & Performance Science, Medicine, Nursing, Diagnostic Imaging and Veterinary Medicine. The aim of the module is to aid clinical decision making, by enabling students to retrieve and interpret best available evidence. Students will practice literature searching based on focused clinical questions; critically appraise diagnostic accuracy studies, cohort / case-control studies, Randomised Controlled Trials and Systematic Reviews / Meta-analyses. In line with the National Undergraduate Curriculum for Chronic Disease Prevention and Management, students will learn how to interpret research related to risk associated with lifestyle behaviours, which should facilitate effective communication of health promotion.
