PHTY20240 Tai Chi for Sport & Health

Academic Year 2024/2025

This is an elective module designed primarily for Physiotherapy and other Healthcare students, who have an interest in Tai Chi and Qigong Exercise, and in Applied Biomechanics. This module is delivered through practical teaching and online materials, and will introduce students to the biomechanical principles of Tai Chi, and to Tai Chi and Qigong movement(s) and exercises, for sport, health, physical coordination, and well-being.
It primarily focuses on how to do a specific short solo Tai Chi Hand-Form (short Wu-Cheng square and round hand-form) and specific set of Qigong exercises (the standing Eight Pieces of Silk Brocade, Baduanjin), but includes other training methods and exercises.
