Curricular information is subject to change.

This module builds upon previous musculoskeletal-related modules and will introduce students to the biopsychosocial-based assessment and management of musculoskeletal disorders of the lower limb in adults and children, including soft tissue injuries and fractures. Students will develop the ability to undertake a safe, thorough clinical assessment of the lower limb and select and implement appropriate physiotherapy management interventions. Students will develop and integrate their theoretical and practical knowledge within a framework of clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
1. Describe the aetiology, pathology, clinical presentation of a range of adult and paediatric musculoskeletal disorders and fractures of the lower limb based on the biopsychosocial model of illness and pain, clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice.
2. Describe, perform and interpret a musculoskeletal-focused clinical assessment of the lower limb.
3. Demonstrate a range of treatment approaches for managing a range of lower limb musculoskeletal disorders based on the biopsychosocial model, sound clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice.
4. Demonstrate an ability to assess and manage musculoskeletal disorders and fractures of the lower limb in a collaborative, compassionate, professional, safe, and ethical manner that recognises and respects societal equality, diversity and inclusion and develops professional autonomy and accountability.

Indicative Module Content:

This module consists of learning about the pathology, assessment, and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders of the lower limb. This learning is set within a biopsychosocial/evidence-based practice framework. This module will develop the clinical knowledge and reasoning with which to prepare students for clinical placements during which they will have the opportunity to apply this learning when assessing and treating patients with lower limb disorders, and to do so in a safe, competent, respectful and evidence-based manner.
