This module offers Masters and Doctoral students in the Health Sciences the opportunity: (a) to explore theoretical principles of teaching and learning; and (b) to gain practical experience in the delivery and assessment of public health seminars and statistical tutorials to undergraduate medical students. Students will prepare a teaching portfolio to a specified set of criteria under the direction of the Module Co-ordinators of the modules to which they will contribute, as well as under the guidance of the Module Co-ordinator of this module. Students will maintain a logbook of their teaching assignments, assessment of written materials as well as personal reflections on their teaching preparation, presentation and experience.

The learning experiences in this module include:
- an understanding of the philosophy and attributes of successful learning;
- study and preparation of teaching materials relevant to the module to which they will contribute;
- researching and integrating best practices in teaching in their context;
- acting as tutors and moderators for student group presentations;
- design and implementation of student assessments;
- engaging in quality assurance of the student assessment processes;
- understanding the role and value of peer assessment;
- provision of feedback to students, supervisors and module co-ordinators.
