About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

On successful completion of the module, students should be able to:Identify the range and properties of chemicals found in the workplace.Explain the biochemical actions and interactions of toxicants in the human bodyRecognise the toxic effects of major classes of toxicants;Understand the use of toxicology (as a tool) to classify, label and develop information for Safety Data Sheets;Recognise the terminology (originating from toxicology) used in chemical safety information and risk assessment;Develop and implement the principles of chemical hazard and risk assessment and appropriate control and prevention strategies for toxic chemicals;Demonstrate specialised knowledge of the principles of ergonomics from an occupational physicians perspective, in relation to prevention of occupationally-acquired musculoskeletal disorders;Diagnose and manage common occupationally-acquired musculoskeletal disorders.
