This module includes overview of occupational health history and current structures, role of Health & Safety Authority, pre-employment medicals, absenteeism, insurance medicals, employee assistance programmes, workplace health promotion, stress, occupational accidents.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

On successful completion of the module, students should be able to:Demonstrate understanding of organisation of occupational health structures nationally and ability to critically appraise these structures.Demonstrate specialized knowledge of the roles of the occupational health physician in different settings.Identify hazards that can lead to occupational ill health and apply the hazard identification, risk assessment and risk management process to occupational health hazards.Analyse how occurrences of occupational ill health can be investigated.Advise management on methods to reduce the risk of occupational ill health.Demonstrate knowledge and application of absence management, examinations for insurance, role of Employee Assistance Programmes.Apply health promotion in the workplace and critically appraise existing programmes.
