This seminar will discuss a fundamental topic or topics in Analytic Philosophy through the close analysis of texts and arguments, either from the history of Analytic Philosophy or in more recent work or both. Specific topics to be explored for this coming year will be updated closer to the beginning of the semester.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

Students will gain a good understanding of some perennial issues as treated in the 'Analytic' tradition of philosophy, primarily 20th and 21st century philosophy. There will be a particular focus on the close reading and careful analysis of original texts and articles.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
This seminar will involve close reading, discussion, and analysis of selected key texts, arguments, and concepts. The writing of excellent evidence-based and scholarly research essays (in effect, articles of one's own) will be a primary focus in learning the practice of philosophy.
