This module forms part of the core Stage 4 Pharmacology degree course. This module covers advanced topics in cognition, neurodegeneration and neuropsychiatric illness. Topics covered will include neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, schizophrenia, depression and anxiety. The module will focus on novel therapeutic strategies under development in these disease states. It is strongly recommended that students have taken PHAR30080 and PHAR30040, or other modules with similar learning outcomes.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module students should be able to:
1. Critically evaluate recent research findings in neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric diseases.
2. Discuss existing and novel therapeutic approaches to neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric diseases.
3. Discuss the contribution of early life adversity to the development of neuropsychiatric diseases.
4. Discuss cognitive function and critically evaluate the mechanisms of action of cognition modulating drugs.

Indicative Module Content:

This module covers advanced topics in the cognition, neurodegeneration and neuropsychiatric illness.
