The aim of this module is to further students’ knowledge of research methods and statistical analysis appropriate for an in depth understanding of scientific literature and to undertake an independent research project for their dissertation. This module provides grounding for the Dissertation module (PERS40080) which will be developed during the summer term. In lectures and workshops students will have the opportunity to develop skills in designing, conducting and appraising quantitative and qualitative research in sport and exercise science. Emphasis will be placed on ethical challenges and issues when conducting research. Data analysis, presentation and interpretation of results will be carried out mainly using advanced features of Excel and Jamovi software. The association between choice of research design and appropriate statistical analysis will be highlighted. Literature search strategy, ethics application and use of Excel/Jamovi software will be covered in specifically designed workshops.
