This module introduces students to the key principles and practices of performance analysis in sport. It explores the role of performance analysts for sports scientists, focusing on the analysis of performance through data collection, summary and interpretation. Students will develop the skills to identify performance indicators, collect and interpret data, and provide feedback to coaches or athletes. Emphasis is placed on practical application through a case study using video and/or GPS data to inform feedback strategies for athletes or teams.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module students should be able to:
• Critically appraise the emerging scientific literature in performance analysis and coaching and
apply to specific coaching problems.
• Determine the performance indicators that will produce the most meaningful and insightful
performance data across a range of sports.
• Demonstrate competence in computer-based, video recorded and manual methods of
performance analysis in both technical and tactical sporting contexts.
• Construct an appropriate feedback intervention for a sports team or individual and critically
evaluate the impact of the intervention.
• Formulate the role of a performance analyst in professional practice as part of a multidisciplinary
team.
