PERS20020 Introduction to Nutrition for Health and Exercise

Academic Year 2022/2023

This module provides an understanding of the role of food and nutrition in promoting a healthy lifestyle. Health risks linked to body composition, nutrient deficiencies and dietary habits are readily altered by manipulation of nutrient intake in the short- and long-term. Students are introduced to both the foundations of nutrition science (macro- and micronutrients, measuring dietary requirements and energy balance), and their application to health. Students will be provided with a brief introduction to nutrition and exercise. Foods will be discussed with reference to their composition of carbohydrates, fats, proteins, minerals, and vitamins.
