In order to complete this module students must be able to show that they can:
-Design, plan, implement and write-up a professional dissertation / report on a discrete original quantitative project addressing a research gap in the area of occupational safety and health, demonstrating a sound knowledge of relevant subject theoretical literature and of the research process to justify the project rationale, study design, methodology and findings.
-Write a dissertation / project, or a journal article suitable for publication, in compliance with UCD policy and guidelines and academic convention, including structure, professionalism, and recognised referencing systems.
As a student, you will start this year-long module by exploring and writing up a literature base for your research. You'll attend tutorial sessions in the Autumn trimester to explore, consider and consolidate your project plan and to prepare your proposal / application for ethical approval (or exemption from full ethical approval) while concurrently attending a co-requisite Research Methods module.
Research integrity certification is incorporated into the module in advance of ethical approval processes.
The ethical approval process is an important step that is evaluated by the School Taught Masters Research Ethics Committee and without approval the masters thesis cannot proceed.
During the Spring and Summer trimesters you will operationalise and implement your proposal, collect, cleanse and /or and analyse data under supervision, and write a dissertation or equivalent body of writing on your work.

A wide range of feedback mechanisms are used, including supervisor-led one-to-one and group feedback and peer-review to facilitate iterative drafting of the final dissertation.
