At the end of this module students will be able to:

Identify a broad range of occupational hygiene hazards in the working environment;

Devise solutions to specific workplace issues using the occupational hygiene approach of recognition, evaluation, monitoring and control;

Advise management on the identification, evaluation and control of chemical and physical risks;

Demonstrate knowledge of appropriate measuring equipment and be able to evaluate occupational hygiene results;

Know when to call in external occupational hygienists or specialists;

Participate in 'hands-on' experience / equipment demonstration and practical session.

The learning outcomes of this module are consistent with achieving the objectives of SDG 3 Good Health and SDG 8 Decent Work from an occupational health and wellbeing perspective.

Introduction to occupational hygiene, occupational hygiene management and case studies, principles of occupational hygiene (Identification, Evaluation and Control), exposure controls and baseline monitoring, occupational hygiene assessment
occupational hygiene practicals air exposure, thermal environment, Site visit, noise, Ionising radiation, non-ionising radiation, vibration.

Students must be aged over 23 years, be employed and have at least 3 years work experience. This module contains work-based assignments and if students are not working, they will be unable to meet the credit requirements.

Students should be engaged in OSH in their workplace.

Student will receive a provisional individual grade in Brightspace within 20 working days of the submission date of the assignment (A, B, C etc. as per UCD grade descriptors). The grade will contribute to the student final’s grade for the module. Each student will receive an assignment feedback sheet on Brightspace.
