This module facilitates students to develop professional and essential OSH career skills. Students will undertake a self and group evaluation of their CV and consider the application process for a new role. The use of AI in preparation of CVs and cover letters will be introduced and assessed so that students can reflect on the uses of AI in this process. Students will be introduced to workplace research skills so that they can independantly undertake research in their workplaces to improve safety culture and evaluate the implementation of new safety management system innovations.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of the module the student should be able to:

- Update their CV and cover letters for new job opportunities and recognise how AI can assist in such endeavours.

- Reflect on appropriate workplace based research activities which can used to develop new safety focused projects appropriately.

- Understand the ethics behind workplace based research activities to improve organisational safety.

- Prepare a rationale and tentative plan of action for a new safety focused workplace project.

The learning outcomes of this module are consistent with achieving the objectives of SDG 4 Quality Education as this module contributes to fostering an inclusive and equitable education that promotes lifelong learning for all.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
Traditional lecture, e-learning resources, roundtable discussion workshops and presentation of student ideas for in class group feedback and discussion, autonomous learning through assessment.

Requirements, Exclusions and Recommendations
Learning Requirements:

Students must be aged over 23 years, be employed and have at least 3 years work experience. This module contains work-based assignments and if students are not working, they will be unable to meet the credit requirements.

Learning Recommendations:

Students should be engaged in OSH in their workplace.

How will my Feedback be Delivered?

Student will receive a provisional individual grade in Brightspace within 20 working days of the submission date of the assignment (A, B, C etc. as per UCD grade descriptors). The grade will contribute to the student final’s grade for the module. Each student will receive an assignment feedback sheet on Brightspace.
