On successful completion of this module the student should be able to:
1.Reflect critically on effective ways of working with and improving care for people with diabetes , in light of continuing advances in diabetes theory, research and evidence.
2. Critically evaluate the nurses/midwives role in the provision of supported self-management of diabetes.
3. Design an education program with the person with type 1 & 2 diabetes that incorporates a chronic illness pathway.
4. Critically evaluate all aspects of each therapeutic modality in the context of diabetes.
5. Create an evidence based plan of care for a person with type 2 diabetes across care settings in the context of current international evidence-based care pathways.

•The student needs to be registered with NMBI.
•Must have a minimum of one post registration experience.
• Must work a minimum of 75hours per month in the care of people with diabetes
