This module completes the supernumerary clinical placements that are a necessary part of the professional requirements of the programme. The primary focus is to consolidate learning to ensure that the student possesses the requisite skills to progress to internship in Stage 4. The student must pass this supernumerary placement before they can proceed to internship placements.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module students should be able to demonstrate competence in the following domains:
o Professional values and conduct of nurse competences /knowledge and appreciation of the virtues of caring, compassion, integrity, honesty, respect and empathy as a basis of nursing
o Nursing practice and clinical decision-making competences including understanding and knowledge of the principles of safe, effective and person-centred care delivery based on partnership
o Knowledge and cognitive competences including life, behavioural and health sciences
o Communication and Interpersonal competences
o Management and team competences
o Leadership and professional scholarship competencies including self-directed learning skills, critical questioning /reasoning and maintaining competency.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
This is a practical module focused on clinical practice in care settings with service users.
Students will have the opportunity to link theory to practice in real-life situations with guidance, support and feedback.
Teaching and learning is therefore experiential and guided by practice, skills performance, reflection and discussion.
Competency will be assessed by the students preceptor using a standardised document.

How will my Feedback be Delivered?

Students will have set meetings with their to establish a learning plan and goals to be met against specific domains and standards and then to evaluate progress against these standards. Feedback will be provided by the preceptor and/or team and via the Clinical Placement Coordinator (CPC) and documented in the students National Competence Assessment Document.
