On completion of this module students should be able to:
• Understand the health implications of possible pre-existing medical conditions on
pregnancy.
• Acquire skills and knowledge to recognize the development of pregnancy related
complications.
• Demonstrate the ability to initiate the appropriate specialised midwifery care and
management of women who develop complications during pregnancy.
• Recognise her/his scope of midwifery practice in specialised complex pregnancies and demonstrate an understanding of the importance of prompt multidisciplinary team involvement when these situations arise.
• Understand the effects of social and psychological factors on the pregnancy
experience.
