NMHS33070 Anatomy and Physiology for Midwifery Practice

Academic Year 2023/2024

The module aims to build upon the students’ existing knowledge of the structure and function of the body, specifically the reproductive organs, and the physiological changes which occur in pregnancy, labour, the puerperium and lactation. The physiology of the fetus both intrauterine and their physiological adaptation at birth is also taught. This provides the student with essential foundations for the knowledge development and clinical skills, for clinical practice.

fetus and supporting structures in utero and the changes that occur during pregnancy, labour and postnatal period.

3. Demonstrate knowledge of the physiology of the fetus and neonate including transition to extrauterine life.
