At the end of this module the student will:
1. Analyse the anatomical and physiological effects of Spinal Column/ Spinal Cord Injury and Disease on the patient.
2. Demonstrate the ability to provide holistic nursing care, drawing on best evidence, practice guidelines and national policy, across the continuum of Spinal Column/Spinal Cord Injury care.
3. Examine the indicators of readiness to engage with patient education and distinguish the evidence-based patient education.
4. Develop an individualised patient education programme and holistic discharge care plan collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team and the patient.
5. Demonstrate progression of professional nursing role and competence incorporating the agreed core values of Compassion, Care and Commitment and their associated behaviours.

Registered General Nurse with a minimum 6 months recent clinical practice experience. The nurse must be employed in the National Spinal Injuries Unit in the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital or the Spinal Cord Injury Service in the National Rehabilitation Hospital. Students are required to complete a minimum of 75 hours clinical experience per month for the duration of the module (25 weeks).

• Feedback individually to students, post-assessment
Students shall receive feedback on all assessments associated with the Spinal Column/ Spinal Cord Injury Nursing CPD programme. The purpose of feedback is the promotion of learning for the student. Feedback should be clear, understandable and be structured around goals, criteria and standards. Feedback can be in oral or written form, formal or informal. Students are responsible for engaging with feedback and applying consideration to the feedback given on their work. Feedback shall be given no later than twenty working days after the deadline for assessment submission, except work that is submitted late.
