This module provides healthcare professionals in front line management roles or those soon to progress into a management role with enhanced knowledge and skills to support them as managers. This will include learning more about leadership and management and to determine what is their own approach to these areas of work, along with issues pertaining to self-management and personal impact. The module will address areas such as team leading, performance management, quality improvement, managing projects and implementing change. An exploration of relevant aspects of budgeting and resource management, and people management with a view to practical application of these will also be provided.

Learning Outcomes:


Indicative Learning Outcomes: On completion the student will be able to:
• Describe aspects of both leadership and management in roles as line managers.
• Appraise his /her own management style and personal impact.
• Classify management issues as related to his/her current role.
• Analyse the key important human relations and financial issues related to the management of people and resources.
• Implement a Change Management Initiative within his / her own work area.
• Present the findings from the Change Management Initiative in a formal context.

Indicative Module Content:

The programme will address areas such as leading teams, performance management, coaching & feedback, quality improvement and change management. An exploration of relevant aspects of budgeting and resource management, and people management with a view to practical application of these will also be provided.
