On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
Explain the theory and practice related to the care of children and young people with mental health problems using recovery-focused and family-centred approaches.
Critically appraise the needs of older adults with mental illness and the role of the mental health nurse in care of older people; analyse mental health problems that affect older people and the health initiatives within national and international contexts for older people.
Critically appraise the needs and national resources for adults with Intellectual Difficulties and Mental Health Difficulties, their access to mental health services and communication needs and approaches.
Demonstrate critical awareness of those with specialist needs including those diagnosed with eating disorders, dementia, personality disorder or those experiencing addictions.
Demonstrate critical awareness of mental health and social inclusion issues as they pertain to minority groups in Ireland including Irish Travellers and other minority populations.
