NMHS32570 Therapeutic Interventions

Academic Year 2023/2024

Therapeutic interventions will be explored within the context of key medical, social and behavioural treatment models, national and international health policies and contemporary best practice, relating to the effective management of all mental health difficulties. A diverse range of individual and group therapeutic interventions are explored.
The lectures are designed to be interactive and student participation is expected. Practical classroom work will revolve around interactional methods used when one encounters someone experiencing a mental health difficulty. Planning and delivery of care is critically discussed with regard to every intervention. In addition, special attention is paid to therapeutic communication skills, which are fundamental to mental health nursing.
As part of the assessment of the year-long module, three short portfolio submissions ensure that the student connects a therapeutic intervention with client care and with current literature.
