NMHS32540 Evid Based Pract for MH Nurs

Academic Year 2023/2024

This module is aimed at increasing the student’s ability to use good evidence to inform clinical decision making and mental health nursing practice. The module will introduce the student to Evidence Based Practice (EBP) and its importance to mental health nursing practice. It will focus on the types and sources of evidence, relationship between clinical questions and research designs, and examines both quantitative and qualitative means of gathering evidence. The challenges of translating good evidence into practice are explored. The module will outline the features of a workplace that enhances EBP and how to assess the environment through clinical audit.

Learning Outcomes:

On successful completion of this module you should be able to:
Use research knowledge to interrogate clinical practice standards.
Understand the importance of the research question.
Debate the value of various kinds of evidence using the hierarchy of evidence.
Be able to argue the case for the implementation of evidence based practice for mental health nursing.
Discuss how clinical audit contributes to evidence based practice.

How will my Feedback be Delivered?

Individual feedback will be given students on their papers discussing the process of conducting a clinical audit. Feedback will be given to student teams on their debate performance, following the debate.
