NMHS30970 Evidence Based Practice for Healthcare

Academic Year 2020/2021

The module will introduce the student to evidence-based practice which is understood as the integration of best current evidence with clinical expertise and patient preferences and values for the delivery of clinically effective nursing/midwifery practice. The aim is to equip students with the knowledge, skills and language to embark on life-long learning and appreciation of the relationship between research evidence and their evolving nursing/midwifery practice. Students will be introduced to different types and sources of evidence and the relationship between clinical questions, research designs, methods and ethical integrity. Furthermore, the importance and role of clinical guidelines and clinical audit in evidence-based practice will be illustrated. Through incremental learning, the students will build their knowledge of and reflect on the research evidence which underpins clinical decision making in areas related to their clinical practice.
