Academic Year 2020/2021

All lectures for this module will be delivered online. This module consists of three units. Unit 1 develops students’ theoretical knowledge and practical skills related to promoting and protecting the health and wellbeing of individuals within the context of current national and international policies and practice. Unit 2 introduces students to different types and sources of evidence and the relationship between clinical questions, research designs and methods. Unit 3 provides students with essential knowledge central to care delivery in a range of specialist settings.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion the candidate will be able to:
•Demonstrate an understanding of concepts of health and national and international health promotion concepts, models, approaches, policies and practices in relation to the key lifestyle behaviours of alcohol, nutrition, tobacco and physical activity.
•Develop their ability to work with individuals and families compassionately and sensitively to promote healthy lifestyles in a person centred way.
•Reflect on and evaluate personal values, beliefs and feelings and their impact on health promotion care delivery.
•Structure clinical research questions aligned to relevant question types and identify and recognise relevant sources of research information and evidence.
•Demonstrate an understanding of safe care delivery for specified specialist settings.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
All lectured for this module will be delivered online either synchronously or asynchronously. A variety of teaching and learning strategies will be use including pre-recorded and live on-line lectures, online role play demonstrations directed activities and reflective learning.
