This module introduces students to generic and specialist care psychiatric settings. Students will be provided with opportunities to observe and engage in patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse where appropriate. Possible areas linked to this module include: in patient care, community care, adolescent mental health, addictions, substance misuse and gambling, care of the older person, eating disorders, intellectual disability, psychosis units and forensic mental health nursing care.
This module is part of the essential clinical requirements for professional registration. The student must pass all individual clinical placements before a pass grade can be awarded for the module. All clinical placement modules must be passed. All clinical time must be completed before the student can progress to the next stage of the programme.

How will my Feedback be Delivered?

You will be assessed against the criteria and standards of the National Competency Assessment Document (NCAD) 6 domains of competency by your preceptor and the nursing team in the clinical areas where you are assigned. You will have 3 formal meetings which are documented and signed in your portfolio document NCAD. You will have feedback as you progress from your preceptor and possibly from other nursing colleagues.
