Entry to this module is by AUDITION ONLY. DO NOT REGISTER TO THIS MODULE UNLESS you have successfully passed your audition. ALL those who pass their audition WILL be given a module place.

Students wanting to AUDITION for this module must either submit a video audition through the application form available on the School of Music website, where further instructions can be found, or request a live audition.

Live auditions will be held on Friday, 24th January from 11am-2pm - please complete the audition form and email amy.ryan@ucd.ie to request an audition slot. The deadline for audition videos is Friday 24th January at 5pm - late applications will not be accepted.

The Philharmonic Choir offers students an opportunity to become familiar with the choral repertoire while developing their musicianship and vocal skills as well as analysing repertoire through practical engagement with same. The module will culminate in a public concert performance.

Assessment will consist of the following: 50% for on students' contribution to and participation in rehearsals, 30% for a practical skills assessment undertaken in a small group and 20% for a final practical skills assessment based on the final concert. Students unable to attend rehearsal sessions should inform the module coordinator as soon as possible before or after the relevant session.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

Students who participate successfully in the choir will achieve the following objectives:

- Improve sight-reading and musicianship skills
- Develop their vocal technique
- Learn a variety of choral music to a high standard
- Gain an understanding of choral music.
- Broaden knowledge of the choral repertoire

Indicative Module Content:

Progressive weekly rehearsals in which students will work on selected repertoire, culminating in the creation of a public concert performance.

The development of musicianship skills and vocal technique will be incrementally integrated into work on the repertoire, as appropriate, as well as being explored through bespoke activities.
