Learning Outcomes:
In this course students will:
- Undertake close and sustained study of several musical works.
- Examine and gain knowledge of the social significance and cultural contexts of these works.
- Develop the ability to write about music fluently and confidently.
- Investigate a number of scholarly approaches to the structure, history, and socio-cultural significance of music.
Indicative Module Content:
Series of topics, such as classical music and the canon; music for audio-visual media; and the impact of changing technology on classical and popular music, with an emphasis on selected works to be studied in detail.
