On completion of this module the student should be able to: Demonstrate that he or she has mastered the techniques of Calculus, for example, find limits, differentiate, and sketch various classes of functions.The student must be able to describe, and demonstrate a thorough understanding of, the concepts introduced in the course (such as function, limit, continuity and differentiability) and explain how these relate to each other.
More generally, students should be able to do the following:
WRITE MATHEMATICS: to recognise, read and correctly use standard mathematical symbols and notation.
QUESTION: They should be able to ask pertinent questions, to decide which questions are relevant, answerable and so on.
UNDERSTAND: They must understand the reasoning behind any methods or procedures they use and be able to demonstrate that understanding.
PRODUCE EXAMPLES: Students must also be able to produce examples themselves, in order to illustrate a definition, show a method, or test boundaries of an idea.

To take this course you should have achieved at least H4 at Higher Level Leaving Certificate Mathematics or equivalent. In particular, Ordinary Level Leaving Certificate Mathematics is NOT adequate.
