The aim of this module is to introduce students to the role of Information Technology in support of actuarial activities. This practical oriented module incorporating decision support tools is complemented by the following theoretical topics: concepts of Information Systems, Information Technology support for decision making, eBusiness, and Ethical issues in the use of IT.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module, students should:

• Understand the concept of information and describe how information systems are used today in finance, including the technological, human resources, and organisational components of information systems.
• Appreciate the management issues that arise in the use of information and communication technology.
• Be aware of the ethical concerns that information systems raise in society and how to how to mitigate risks arising from the use of information technology.
• Understand how ICT can be integrated with business analytics techniques to provide decision support in business.
• Be aware of emerging technologies that can enhance the decision making capability of an organisation.
