Information & Communication Technologies (ICT) are rapidly evolving and today they are a central resource in the pursuit of business objectives and strategies. Both commercial and non-commercial organisations are increasingly driven toward integrated electronic interactions throughout the value chain. As a result, the role of ICT – and in particular Social Media – in business needs to be re-evaluated to develop a sophisticated understanding of how digital business and social media may help today’s firm to obtain and sustain competitive advantage in the global marketplace.



This module discusses the stages necessary to design and implement and organisation’s digital business and social media strategy supporting the organisation’s objectives.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module, students should be able to:



(i) Demonstrate a sound understanding of the major topics surrounding Digital Business and Social Media.



(ii) Understand how organisations utilise both digital business and social media initiatives to gain and sustain competitive advantage.

(iii) Identify digital business and social media initiatives that enable new forms of communication, collaboration, and partnering, including providing stronger relationships with the organisation’s customers and suppliers.

(iv) Draft a digital business and social media strategy for an organization.
