Learning outcomes for a course on automotive engines typically cover a range of knowledge, skills, and abilities that students are expected to acquire by the end of the course. These outcomes are designed to reflect a comprehensive understanding of the principles, design, and operation of automotive engines, including fundenmental understanding of engine, the cycle analysis, and the design/optimization of engine working process
Indicative Module Content:Theoretical and practical cycles of 2-stroke and 4-stroke engines. The performance indicators and improvement technologies.
Essential mechanical parts and lubrication systems, including ignition parts, pistons, crankshaft, gas preparation parts, etc. The lubrication loop covers the oil pump, filter, valves, etc. its integration with the cooling system;
The combustion of gas, the thermodynamic analysis of the combustion process, and gas pressurization noises, as well as its control strategies, will be also discussed.
Sensor system to inspect the temperature, pressure, flow rate, etc. control and adjustment strategies for the system
The cooling loop of the engine system, the design of the heat exchanger, water/coolant flow rate optimization and adjustment.
New-energy vehicle engine overview, hybrid and all electrified vehicle.
Besides, the module will also require lab practice with engine and drawing work, to know better of the engine components, the design of the whole loop.
