With mental health problems the reason why approximately one-third of patients attend primary care, and with this expected to increase since the pandemic, the Graduate Certificate in Primary Care (Mental Healthcare) aims to equip health and social care professionals with the knowledge, skills and competencies to diagnose, assess and treat patients with these problems confidently and effectively.

In the module Mental Healthcare Hot Topics (MEDN40140), students will learn about a diverse range of emerging priorities in the care of patients with mental health problems, why these are relevant for their everyday practice and reflect on ways in which these learnings may inform their future practice.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
Module delivery will be via lectures delivered online with related webinars.
There will be reflective case reports.
Learning from problem case reviews.

Regular case based scenarios will encourage the integration and utilization of knowledge and skills which will include behaviour change, prevention, diagnosis and management. This will allow an informed holistic patient centered approach to current new problems in healthcare.
