This module is part of the Professional Masters in Child Art Psychotherapy, encompassing the theoretical and practical elements of the Vasarhelyi Method of Child Art Psychotherapy. This module comprises Child Art Psychotherapy training sessions and regular reflective group work, and is designed to provide an understanding of the theory of Child Art Psychotherapy within the framework of child mental health. The student engages in group therapy, along with his/her peers. Opportunities are provided for trainees to experience and reflect on the roles of both client and therapist.
This module is taught throughout Years 1 and 2 of the course alongside the Clinical Placement, Supervision, and Psychotherapy Models modules in a way that the trainees simultaneously acquire the theoretical knowledge and skills necessary for the competent, professional practice of Child Art Psychotherapy.
100% attendance is expected, but 80% attendance is the minimum attendance required to achieve credit for the module. Absences must be discussed with the module coordinator or course lecturers or group therapist, who will require supporting documentation (e.g. medical certificates). Students who miss part of the module may be asked to do a further piece of work in remediation, or may not receive credit for the module. Attendance at group therapy is a core part of this module, and regular attendance is required to pass this module.

Learning Outcomes:

The module is designed to provide training in the clinical practice of Child Art Psychotherapy within the framework of child mental health.
Graduates have a specialised knowledge and understanding of the development of the theory of pictorial thinking and its application in clinical practice.
