This module is part of the Professional Masters in Child Art Psychotherapy. This module builds on the introduction
already given in the ‘Introduction to Psychotherapy Models’ module. The key concepts of psychotherapy are taught
offering a wider and more detailed understanding of the later and ongoing developments in psychotherapy theory
and practice. The delivery of the module will focus on theories and their application to clinical practice especially
with children and adolescents.
A psychotherapy practitioner's work is grounded on the practitioner's own experience of psychotherapy. For this
reason students on the Professional Masters are required to attend their own psychotherapy, with a recognised,
reputable psychotherapist / psychoanalyst registered with a relevant professional body in the field. Students are
expected to attend their psychotherapy for the duration of their training while on the MSc. This amounts to
approximately 100 hours of psychotherapy while attending the course - ie weekly attendance at psychotherapy is
expected. Students must attend psychotherapy at a satisfactory level in order to pass the module.
100% attendance at course lectures and workshops is expected, but 80% attendance is the minimum attendance
required to achieve credit for the module. Absences must be discussed with the module coordinator or course
lecturers, who will require supporting documentation (e.g. medical certificates). Students who miss part of the
module may be asked to do a further piece of work in remediation.
