Curricular information is subject to change.

This module is delivered in year one of the Child Art Psychotherapy programme. It provides an overview of the historical origins and development of fundamental concepts and theories which underpin major modalities of psychotherapy. It includes lectures on the history and development of psychotherapy as described in the work of Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung, Anna Freud, Melanie Klein and Donald Winnicott amongst others. Particular emphasis is placed on theoretical models and clinical practices that are relevant to psychotherapeutic work with children/adolescents. The method and clinical practice of Child Art Psychotherapy within the integrative psychotherapeutic framework is explored. Contributors to this module are practitioners from a range of psychotherapeutic fields including psychoanalytic psychotherapy, humanistic and integrative psychotherapy, systemic psychotherapy and art therapy.
100% attendance is expected, but 80% attendance is the minimum attendance required to achieve credit for the module. Absences must be discussed with the module coordinator or course lecturers, who will require supporting documentation (e.g. medical certificates). Students who miss part of the module may be asked to do a further piece of work in remediation.
