This module is part of the Professional Masters in Child Art Psychotherapy. It introduces a number of
psychotherapeutic theoretical models and clinical practices. It includes lectures on the history and development of
the founding theories of psychotherapy as described in the work of Freud, Jung, Klein, Winnicott and Anna Freud
amongst others. The similarities as well as the differences between verbal and non-verbal psychotherapy are
explored in theory and practice.
A psychotherapy practitioner's work is grounded on the practitioner's own experience of psychotherapy. For this
reason students on the Professional Masters are required to attend their own psychotherapy with a recognised,
reputable psychotherapist / psychoanalyst registered with a relevant professional body in the field. Students are
expected to attend their psychotherapy for the duration of their training while on the MSc. This amounts to
approximately 100 hours of psychotherapy while attending the course - i.e. weekly attendance at psychotherapy is
expected. Students must attend psychotherapy at a satisfactory level in order to pass the module.
100% attendance is expected, but 80% attendance is the minimum attendance required to achieve credit for the
module. Absences must be discussed with the module coordinator or course lecturers, who will require supporting
documentation (e.g. medical certificates). Students who miss part of the module may be asked to do a further piece
of work in remediation.
