Access to this module is limited to nominees of the statutory health services. This module equips the candidate to deal with the assessment and management of situations to the standards required of a Registered Advanced Paramedic. Advanced paramedics must make appropriate clinical judgements in order to diagnose specific illnesses and injuries, to identify suitable therapies (including pharmacological interventions) and to administer those therapies. This module combines the clinical and pharmacological components of the course and focuses on making safe and effective decisions on intervention.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of the module, candidates will demonstrate competence in:

1. The management of adult and paediatric clinical scenarios requiring pharmacological interventions.
2. Clinical decision making on use or non-use of the appropriate drug, route of administration, dose and monitoring procedures in relation to all drugs covered in current PHECC CPGs.
3. Clinical decision making in relation to common drugs used in acute and chronic disease management, which may cause, impact on or change the presentation and care of emergencies managed by APs.
4. Medication safety, including controlled drugs.
5. Documentation of all therapeutic interventions.

Indicative Module Content:
