Through meetings with psychiatrists and their teams students learn about psychiatric and mental health practices. There is the opportunity to hear a psychoanalytic perspective that can complement psyhiatric and mental health approaches.

A weekly seminar is the other component of this module. It reads material from the psychoanalytic field in order to identify what is distinctive about psychoanalytic practice and what could be useful and translatable into psychiatric and mental health settings.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module students should:
1) Have attended a minimum of 80% of the meetings with psychiatrists and their team members
2) Appreciate the challenges of psychiatric practice and the objectives of psychiatric intervention
3) Begin to articulate how the psychiatric and psychoanalytic discourses might work productively alongside each other
