Academic Year 2023/2024

The ethical, logistical and epistemological challenges posed to research by the field of psychotherapy will be highlighted and addressed. Research methodologies - qualitative, quantitative and theoretical, primarily - will be studied and assessed with a view to formulating research possibilities in the field within the Irish context. This module will also provide a forum for presentation of dissertation work in progress.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module students should be able to:1. Develop an awareness of the challenges posed to research by the field of psychotherapy 2.Demonstrate familiarity with the various research methodologies for evaluating outcome in psychotherapy; 3. Demonstrate an awareness of the potential for research in the field of psychotherapy in Ireland 4. Demonstrate an awareness of the ethical questions involved in research in the field of psychotherapy
